The best way to help others

is to encourage them to help themselves

instead of just giving them something to live on.

Swallows is a Danish humanitarian organisation                                        based on voluntary work.

Funds collected by the organisation are donated to support local grassroots movements in Bangladesh, Tamil Nadu and South India.

Who Are We?

Swallows is a Danish humanitarian organisation based on volunteer work.

Founded in 1963, Swallows is a self-supporting organisation, based on volunteer work, independent of political and religious interests.

Funds collected by the organisation are donated to support local                 grassroots movements in Bangladesh Tamil Nadu and South India.

Our purpose:

To empower marginalised and oppressed communities in the developing          world to break free from poverty.

Swallows achieves this by organising and supporting grassroots          movements that work closely with landless people, women, tribal communities, and other vulnerable groups.

In Denmark, our volunteers raise awareness of complex development challenges through a range of information activities aimed at deepening public understanding of the role and responsibility of industrialised countries in addressing global poverty-both at societal and political levels.

Swallows volunteers raise funds through the sale of second-hand goods in shops and at flea markets, as well as through the sale of Fair Trade products.

These activities finance most of the resources for Swallows’ work.

We are also funded through member subscriptions, foundations, contributions, and legacies.

There are local offices in Aarhus and Odense. The central office is located in Copenhagen, the capital of Denmark:
